National Numeracy Strategy - Inset Books 3 and 4

First, middle and special

Books 3 and 4 were those used for the third school based inset day in Spring 2000.  All schools had to choose from those books and so the aim of this course is to provide opportunities for teachers to catch up with some missed aspects.  Special educational needs in numeracy is an example of a likely topic.

Supply cover funding under the Numeracy Strategy can be used for this course.

National Numeracy Strategy

As part of the Standards Fund allocation for 2000 - 2001 a small sum of money has been set aside to provide supply cover to allow teachers to attend training run by the LEA.  This allocation can only be used for this purpose, and can only be used in the second half of the day (which is why most courses are being put on at that time).  The allocation can of course be used alongside other sources of funding to enable teachers to attend training.  Courses eligible under this specific allocation are identified under the course notes.

Primary Science and Numeracy Links

Key Stages 1 and 2

This course will be lead by Rosemary Feasey the recent chair of the Association for Science Education and draw on the research she did for her book published in January 2000.  It will help teachers to identify opportunities to develop numeracy skills, particularly data handling within the context of science investigations.  More details will be available in the new year.  There will be an opportunity to purchase discounted copies of Rosemary’s book.

This session can ideally be combined with the morning session on science and literacy.
