NATIONAL CURRICULUM 2008
From September 2008 all KS3 teachers should be using the new National Curriculum with Year 7 pupils. In 2009 this will be extended to include Year 8, and Year 9 in 2010. The new programme of study for music links closely with the work teachers have already carried out through the Secondary Strategy training.
IMPORTANT: The new National Curriculum should be implemented for Year 7 from September 2008. For some good practical materials, teachers of KS3 Music are invited to attend one of our twilight courses - June 24 at Hepscott Park, June 25 at The Sele School, Hexham, or June 26 at Alnwick Lindisfarne, all from 4.00 - 5.30 pm.
There are three RSAs (Regional Subject Advisers) in Music for the North East, and you are welcome to contact them for support or advice. They are:
Adrian Biddulph: bidsmusic@hotmail.co.uk
Andrew Fowler: a.fowler100@durhamlea.org.uk
Hilary Gordon: hgordon@northumberland.gov.uk There will be a CPD session for Northumberland music teachers in June 2008. In the meantime, please read the following documents for the latest information, or check latest developments at http://curriculum.qca.org.uk. |

Three quizzes, one for the end of each key stage.
Designed to take into
account the National Curriculum Programme of Study (Listening &
Appraising),
they also include areas where pupils can gain good scores through their
own musical ability, and to an
extent through awareness of music they might hear outside school.
Early scores showed good correlation with pupils' scores in other
curriculum areas.
