Northumberland Schools' Orchestras

The Orchestras aim to provide young musicians from Northumberland Schools with playing opportunities not otherwise available, whilst complimenting the work of orchestras and bands which flourish at school and community level. Students throughout Northumberland rehearse and perform together in a safe, caring and happy atmosphere on day and residential courses guided by professional staff.

Wind Players for the Symphony Orchestra will be selected from players in the Concert Band as required. It is expected that all applicants support their school ensembles and careful consideration should be given to the number of County Ensembles an applicant feels they have time to play in. Students may be offered membership of one or two county groups with maximum of £480 per person/ family maximum £800.

Allocation of ensemble places is decided by audition, orchestra numbers and after consideration of instrument offered, musical experience, ability, age, and potential.
